On
August 20th, 1952, the employees of Bankers Life of Nebraska , chartered a
credit union which would be known as Bankers Life of Nebraska Employees Credit Union.
While small at first, the credit union grew over the years to reach the size of 4.7
million in May of 1988. It was then that the credit union followed lead of our sponsor and
changed its name to Ameritas Employees Credit Union. The name may have changed but the
mission of the credit union remains the same, to provide quality financial services to
members who share our common bond and seeks to maintain long-term financial stability and
safeguard the assets of those members. This dedication and hard work has allowed us to
grow to over 13 million in assets today with over 2000 members.
Because it is a not-for-profit, member-owned
financial institution, members have a direct impact on how the credit union operates.
Members elect a Board of Directors who serve without pay and help oversee the operations
of the credit union. An additional set of checks and balances is provided by the
Supervisory Committee. These volunteers act as a liaison between the credit union members
and management. The Committee ensures the credit union maintains its financial integrity
and that members' concerns reach the employees who can best improve service. Together, all
of these volunteers strive to make the Ameritas Employees Credit Union the strong
financial institution it is today.
Member participation in the credit union helps
promote the sense of community upon which the Ameritas Employees Credit Union was founded.
Members can make a difference because they have a voice. Members are not just customers
with account numbers, but they are voices to be heard. Staying in touch with members is
the key.
Ameritas Employees Credit Union provides a
full-range of financial products and the opportunity for member involvement. Like FDIC for
banks, deposits in credit unions are insured up to $100,000 by the National Credit Union
Administration, an agency of the U.S. government.
